Kaia Gerber was spotted at the afterparty for The Shards in New York early this morning, wearing a black dress and sunglasses, and the resemblance to her mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, was unmistakable.
Mother and Daughter Duo
Cindy Crawford, 60, and her daughter Kaia Gerber, 24, previously posed together at the RE/DONE x Kaia Gerber 'Short/Cuts' Launch Event in Los Angeles in May. Cindy, known for her iconic 1991 Pepsi commercial, wore double denim while Kaia opted for similar jeans and a white top, flashing a smile as she cosied up to her mother.
Cindy was part of the 'Big Four' fashion models of the 1980s and 1990s alongside Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington. Kaia began her modelling career at age 10 for Young Versace and made her runway debut in 2017.
Acting Career and Fame
Kaia made her film debut in the 2023 black comedy Bottoms and has since appeared in Outcome and Mother Mary. On television, she had a recurring role in Palm Royale and is set to star in the upcoming series The Shards, while also appearing as herself on Saturday Night Live and RuPaul's Drag Race.
Cindy spoke about watching her daughter navigate fame in the age of social media, telling People: "Like anything, there’s good and bad sides to it. The good thing is you have direct communication with your audience. The bad thing can be, it’s a lot of pressure and you see a lot of snarky comments on there." She added: "I’m learning along with her about that stuff, but I feel like she seems like she has a very good head on her shoulders and is figuring out how she wants to create that private work-public balance."
Growing Up in Luxury
Kaia has spoken about missing out on simple experiences due to her privileged upbringing. She told American Vogue: "I found myself in situations where I was, like, I actually don't have the life experience that I need to handle this. It could be something as small as knowing how to take the bus." She recalled a time in Paris: "My driver had to check me into my hotel room - I couldn't even do it on my own. My dad would call me when I’d be in Paris and be like, ‘Do you want to come home?’ At the time I thought I was fine, but now I look back to 16-year-old Kaia and I’m like, ‘Come home!’"
