Julia Roberts has once again dipped into her fashion archives, resurrecting a look that defined her 1990 Golden Globes appearance. The actress was spotted in New York on Wednesday wearing a sharply tailored charcoal suit reminiscent of the Armani menswear ensemble she famously wore 35 years ago. The double-breasted blazer with structured shoulders, paired with high-waisted pleated trousers and a soft gray shirt, echoed her original outfit. She added a playful touch with a navy tie adorned with brooches, including a gold frog, a bird, and miniature cutlery.
At 23, Roberts accepted the Best Supporting Actress award for Steel Magnolias in the androgynous number, which she purchased from the menswear department of Armani's Rodeo Drive boutique. The original look featured an oversized gray blazer with brown buttons, matching trousers, a white shirt, and a purple floral tie. For her latest outing, Roberts pinned her auburn hair into an elegant updo, accessorizing with hoop earrings and pointed-toe black boots, a departure from her voluminous blowout in 1990.
In an interview with Extra, Roberts revealed that her youngest son, Henry, had borrowed the iconic suit. 'He had it on the other day,' she said, adding that she planned to bring it to work for her co-star Ayo Edebiri to try on. 'Stop. Are you kidding me?' Edebiri replied.
Reflecting on the outfit in a Vogue 'Life in Looks' video, Roberts said: 'This was one of my all-time favorite outfits. I just thought I looked fabulous, and I still have that suit. Back in those days, there were no fashion rules. You just wore whatever you wanted.'
