Julia Roberts has described her latest television role as the hardest she has ever done, admitting that the sheer size of the script reduced her to tears. The Oscar-winning actress stars in the new Amazon series Homecoming, playing Heidi, a caseworker at a secret government facility for troubled soldiers.
Speaking about the experience, Roberts said: 'When the whole script in a binder was handed to me I shed a couple of tears: “What’s in there? What!”' She added that the preparation felt like a 24-hour-a-day job, comparing it to her children's homework. 'In the evenings when my kids are doing their homework I’m doing my homework. Then they finish and I’m still doing my homework.'
Roberts revealed that even her husband noticed the intensity of the role. 'Even my husband was like “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you work so hard in your life”.' Despite the challenges, she emphasised that it was a joy, not labour.
The star also shared her admiration for British television, praising Peaky Blinders for its 'knockout production values' and naming Fleabag as her favourite show. Homecoming is set for release on 2 November.
