Julia Goulding has confirmed a Weatherfield return for her character Shona Platt, revealing how she's been warned by viewers of the long-running ITV soap. The actress, best known for playing Shona for a decade later this year, saw the show explore her family for the first time earlier in 2026.
While Shona has created her own family with husband David Platt, viewers were introduced to her son Clayton Hibbs in January, and she was later reunited with her long-lost sister, Jodie Ramsey. Jodie first appeared tied up in a van driven by Emmerdale returnee Graham Foster during a multi-vehicle pile-up in January. After escaping, she ended up in hospital, where she came face-to-face with Shona. Since then, Jodie has made herself comfortable at No.8 Coronation Street but has made multiple attempts to get between Shona and David.
Jodie's Sinister Games
Jodie has seemingly made other Weatherfield residents targets of her unusual games, holding onto a trinket box containing items taken from Bernie Winter, Briah Packham, and DS Lisa Connor-Swain. At the end of last week, Sarah Platt admitted the truth about Jodie attacking her after Kit said she was chipping in while locked up. During Sunday's (July 26) episode, David visited Sarah, who believed Jodie had hit her over the head on the night of Theo's murder to stop her seeing what was in the box. Back at the house, a furious Shona confronted Jodie, who tried to wriggle out of what happened. Shona ordered her to leave but later worried about her sibling.
Meanwhile, David's daughter Lily stumbled upon Jodie's trinket box while searching for her confiscated gaming console. The box also contains a gun obtained by Carl Webster in scenes aired last month. But Shona won't see it as a big deal. "With the stress of having a baby in the hospital, Shona just sees it as a box of Jodie’s things and can’t really understand the fuss," Julia said. "She doesn't have the bandwidth to be suspicious, and she doesn't know about Jodie’s history of theft."
Gun Discovery and Dad Doug's Return
However, the gun is a different matter. Julia commented: "She is livid. There are children in the house, after all. Jodie has to do a lot of work to convince them it’s not a real gun—and presenting a fake one eventually puts their worries to bed—but it’s a heartbreaking situation, especially given how Lily has been manipulated."
The Ramsey family could be explored further with the return of Jodie and Shona's dad, Doug, who was reunited with Shona in Corrie scenes aired in February. When asked how she's felt exploring Shona's relationship with her dad, Julia replied: "It’s been fantastic. Working with Steve Evotts [who plays Doug Ramsey] is a treat. It’s really interesting to explore the Ramsey family dynamic and piece together why Shona and Jodie are the way they are. He is coming back again soon, and we will really find out a lot more about their history."
Corrie fans recognised Steve when he made his debut earlier this year. The actor found fame for his leading role in the 2009 film Looking for Eric. The 66-year-old is also no stranger to soapland, having previously appeared on Emmerdale and Casualty decades ago. However, it was his most recent role, playing sweary farmer Jim in Sky comedy Brassic, that Corrie fans mentioned on social media.
Fan Warnings About Jodie
Julia revealed how she gets warned about Jodie's behaviour from fans. "It’s challenging because Shona doesn’t see most of it, as her mind is preoccupied elsewhere," she said. "We've been told that Jodie is befriending the youngsters, like Lily and Harry, because she has the mind of a child herself. But in terms of playing the scenes, my back is almost always turned, so I don’t have to react to what she is doing or how she is reacting. As for the public's reaction, people often try to warn me. They'll say, 'That sister of yours is a wrong’un,' and I just tell them to keep watching because it definitely gets worse!"
