Judith Chalmers, the legendary TV presenter best known for hosting ITV's Wish You Were Here...?, has died at the age of 90 following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday.
Her family said she had become seriously ill over the last few weeks. They paid tribute to her extraordinary life and career, noting that she leaves behind a 'giant suitcase of the happiest of memories'. Chalmers had suffered from Alzheimer's for some years.
Chalmers presented the travel show for three decades from 1974 to 2003. She also hosted ITV's Good Afternoon and BBC Radio's Family Favourites and Woman's Hour in the 1960s. She was awarded an OBE in 1994.
Born in Cheshire, she began working for the BBC at the age of 13 after being selected for BBC Northern Children's Hour. She later presented Come Dancing from 1961 to 1965 before moving to ITV.
In 2008, she made headlines by revealing she never wore knickers on Wish You Were Here...? to avoid visible panty lines. She is survived by her husband, former sports commentator Neil Durden-Smith, their two children and six grandchildren.
