Former Chelsea captain John Terry was booed as he chugged a pint on stage with Luke Combs at Wembley Stadium on Friday night. The 45-year-old was the surprise guest during Combs' first gig of his three-night residency.
Booing at Wembley
On Saturday, Combs brought out Clarkson's Farm star Kaleb Cooper and former One Direction member Niall Horan to down beers during his hit song "1, 2 Many". However, Cooper and Horan received a much warmer welcome than Terry did. As Terry strode out, hugged Combs, and chugged his pint, resounding boos echoed around the stadium.
Despite the reaction, Terry persisted and later kicked his can into the crowd while Combs tossed his own to fans. An Instagram account for Combs shared a clip, captioning it: "And the kick is good! Shout out to John Terry for joining Luke Combs on stage at Wembley Stadium for night 1."
One attendee commented: "I was there last night too and myself and everyone around me were super confused why [John Terry] was there... and the boos were so so loud - he must have felt so awkward!" Another added the booing "was immense", while a third claimed "it was the loudest the stadium had been that night of everyone booing him".
Terry's Controversial Past
The former England captain is no stranger to controversy. He was recently seen appearing friendly with FIFA president Gianni Infantino at several World Cup games. His biggest scandals include accusations of racial abuse against Anton Ferdinand in 2011, leading to a high-profile trial. Terry was cleared in criminal court but banned for four matches and fined £220,000 by the Football Association. He was also stripped of the England captaincy.
Around six years prior, Terry faced allegations of an affair with the ex-girlfriend of former teammate Wayne Bridge. Although both Terry and Vanessa Perroncel denied the claims, the saga made headlines for months. The drama intensified when Bridge snubbed Terry's handshake in 2010, a moment that lives on in football history.
