John Cena has revealed he recently underwent a second hair transplant after admitting that fan scrutiny 'pushed' him to get the procedure. The former wrestler-turned-actor has been very open about his hair-loss struggles, after sharing that his fans encouraged him to take his health seriously.
Cena's Second Hair Transplant Announcement
The 49-year-old took to Facebook to announce 'round 2 of FUE Treatment,' otherwise known as Follicular Unit Excision. The minimally invasive procedure is a hair transplant where individual hair follicles are extracted from a donor area — typically the back of the head — and implanted into balding or thinning areas. The post, in which Cena said he 'went all in for best possible results,' was accompanied by a photo of the actor shaking hands with Ken Anderson, a 'global leader in hair restoration surgery'. In the image, Cena showed off his bald look ahead of the surgery.
Why He Shaved His Head
It's thought that the WWE veteran shaved his head before the procedure to allow his Georgia-based surgeon better visibility to the parts of his scalp that needed the most attention. Last year, while attending an HBO Max presents Peacemaker event — in which he stars as the lead character — Cena told a reporter that he was 'not ashamed' of his hair transplant. 'I did it, I'm happy with it,' he said at the time. The actor then demonstrated to the journalist how the procedure works. Gesturing to the lower back of his head, Cena explained that 'all they do is move the hair' from the bottom to the top.
Daily Scalp Care Routine
Fast forward to 2026, Cena opened up about his journey once more, specifically that his doctor educated him on scalp care. Speaking on a red carpet earlier this year, he told a reporter that, 'every day, without fail,' he has a 'scalp care routine.' This includes red light therapy, vitamins, minoxidil, and finasteride (the two most clinically proven treatments for male pattern baldness), staying hydrated, and 'making good choices to keep what's up there healthy.'
Fan Accountability and Regret
In an August 2025 cover story for People magazine, Cena confessed that his WWE fans held him 'accountable' when he was trying to hide his hair loss. He said: 'They don't let you get away with phoning it in, because they'll eat you alive. That's what a good support system does.' Cena added that, when he was attempting to hide his appearance, the audience was going the other way and 'bringing it to light.' 'I saw their signs that said, “The bald John Cena.” They pushed me into going to see what my options were and actually do some homework to learn about scalp health, hair health, follicle health,' he recalled.
During the interview, Cena also revealed his regret for not having tried the procedure sooner. However, he explained that it was all down to the 'shame' and stigma surrounding men and hair loss. Cena said: 'I hate the fact that if there wasn't so much shame around it, I'd have gotten it done 10 years ago. I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness.'
