Comedian Joe Lycett has asked for a rule change after his brutal banishment from The Celebrity Traitors on Friday night. The comedian admitted he gave the traitors a "gift" through his gameplaying, since he could not win back the trust of his fellow faithfuls.
Lycett's Gamble Backfires
Lycett made a rod for his own back after telling the entire castle that he wanted to be recruited by the traitors in Thursday's show. The traitors opted for content creator Kenny instead, as Maya Jama, the only original traitor, brought a trusted ally to work alongside them in the turret.
He thought the team would either suspect he remained faithful but would happily betray them in future to turn to the traitorous side, or he was recruited because the traitors opted for a move almost too obvious to believe.
Plea for a New Clause
In the debrief show, The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, Lycett said he did not let go of his ambition to be recruited, even after being banished. He hoped a new special clause would allow faithfuls to return to the game.
He told host Ed Gamble: "I'd like to motivate the Traitors to find an unknown clause in the contract that can bring back a Faithful that's been banished to recruit, because I'm there if they want me!"
Pressure at the Round Table
With heat piling on him at the round table on Friday, Lycett seemed to crack under the pressure and implicate himself as a traitor. He said: "Let's say they [the traitors] were down to two last night and they recruited, there's so much heat on me for what I was doing last night that there's a good chance that I'll go tonight, which means that they will then have to recruit again tonight, denying them of murder."
After a brief pause, a bemused James Blunt quipped: "I thought you said, if they banish me tonight, they will have to recruit another person tomorrow, which would imply [you're a traitor]."
Wish Unfulfilled
At the end of the show, Lycett revealed his wish had not come true. He told the cast: "I always wanted to start as a faithful and end as a traitor. I started as a faithful but I did not get my wish – I am a faithful."
The next show will air on Thursday, as 18 remaining celebrities try to work out who is secretly murdering the faithful.
