Rock legend Joan Jett, known as the 'godmother of punk rock,' made a surprise appearance at La Lanterna, an Italian restaurant on Hope Street in Glasgow, on Thursday, July 2, ahead of her concert at the O2 Academy Glasgow. The 67-year-old musician dined at the restaurant before taking the stage, much to the delight of customers and staff.
Staff Praised the 'True Icon'
The restaurant shared a photo of Jett with employees on Facebook, writing: 'Rock royalty at La Lanterna. The Godmother of Punk Rock herself, Joan Jett, graced us with her presence at La Lanterna Hope Street! From “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” to a love of great Italian food – we were beyond honoured to welcome a true icon through our doors.' They added: 'Thank you for choosing us, Joan – Glasgow (and La Lanterna) will always have a soft spot for rock legends!'
Fans reacted enthusiastically in the comments, with one writing: 'She was amazing last night.' Another said: 'Amazing wish I was in the night before.' A third commented: 'My daughter Steff met her tonight after seeing her live at the O2.'
Joan Jett's Legendary Career
Jett first rose to fame in 1975 when she formed the rock band The Runaways in Los Angeles. Though the group disbanded in 1979 after four studio albums, Jett's influence inspired a generation of girls to pursue music. She is best known for her cover of 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll,' which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in 1982. Jett also founded her own label, Blackheart Records, becoming one of the first female artists to do so. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked her number 87 on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time, and she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016.
