Dame Joan Collins continues to defy her age, looking radiant at 93. The iconic actress attended the Variety Power of Women event in London on Wednesday night, where she received the Power of Women Icon of the Year award.
Glitzy Appearance
Joan dazzled on the red carpet in a sequin gold blouse with shoulder pads, paired with a midi black skirt and high heels. She was accompanied by her husband, Percy Gibson, 61, who joined her to celebrate the honor.
Reflecting on her enduring career, Joan said: 'I discovered that to survive in this business and to thrive, you have to show which women are needed to reinvent themselves. We have to reinvent ourselves time and time again.'
Secrets to Youthful Looks
In previous interviews, the acting legend has shared her beliefs on maintaining a fresh appearance. She credits her longevity to favorable genetics inherited from her parents. 'I have very good genes – I'm very lucky,' she told The Telegraph. 'My father lived to be 87, and for somebody born in 1903 that's pretty amazing.'
Joan insists she doesn't follow fad diets or strict health routines. 'I just believe in healthy living. I don't eat junk, I get eight hours of sleep, I exercise. It's very simple,' she said.
Mental Wellbeing
When it comes to mental health, Joan claims it has never been a concern. 'I never have thought about my mental health, ever. My mental health is perfect,' she stated, attributing it to a happy childhood and lack of substance abuse.
No Surgery or Tweakments
Joan has always been resolute in avoiding plastic surgery. 'I do not believe in what they call tweakments,' she insisted. 'I've never had them, which is why I look more or less the same as I have done for years.' She has previously hit back at surgery rumors, saying: 'If people want to think I've had surgery, then… You can tell [I haven't] because I have lines and jowls.'
Skincare and Fitness Routine
Joan attributes her age-defying skin to sleeping on her back and using sun protection. 'I also always, always sleep on my back,' she explained. 'I've trained myself to, because I used to sleep on my side, scrunched up into the pillow, and then I was told not to because it gives you 'scrunchy face'.'
She also follows a disciplined skincare routine, using Nivea cleanser and Charlotte Tilbury night cream. A secret tip she learned from Marilyn Monroe's makeup artist involves using ice pads on her eyes to reduce puffiness.
For fitness, Joan enjoys gym workouts and Pilates, though she had to scale back due to a trapped nerve. With physiotherapy, she fully recovered and now exercises half an hour daily. She even claims she can still do the splits 'very easily.'
Diet and Nutrition
Joan favors nutritious whole foods, including avocados, which she eats daily. 'I eat an avocado every day and have facials in New York with a girl called Tracie Martyn. She works a lot of oxygen into my skin,' she told The Express. She takes vitamin supplements and avoids junk food, but doesn't deprive herself of treats like wine or dessert.
Her philosophy: 'The quality of what you eat is as important as the quality of the products you use.'
