Jo Wood has spoken out for the first time about stepson Jesse Wood's pregnancy announcement with his girlfriend, former Made in Chelsea star Gemma Gregory. The 71-year-old former model, who helped raise Jesse during her 26-year marriage to Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, expressed her excitement in an exclusive interview with The Mirror.
“I’m very excited. It’s great. I’m really happy for them. Gemma is lovely and a really nice woman,” Jo said. “Jesse texted me: 'Jo, I've got some great news…' I thought, woohoo! Wonderful!” Jesse, 49, and Gemma, 40, announced earlier this month that they are expecting their first child together, 16 months after his split from TV presenter Fearne Cotton.
Jo, who divorced Ronnie in 2011 after his affair with a 20-year-old waitress, also praised Gemma's parenting skills. “She'll be a great mum. And she's good with Jesse's kids as well,” she added. Jesse shares two children with Fearne and two from his first marriage. Jo also confirmed that Jesse and Fearne are co-parenting successfully: “They're good. They've got it all sussed. They're all happy. There's no bitterness or anything like that.”
The comments came at the launch of the audiobook for Jo's debut novel, The Resurrection of Flo, a story about life after divorce. She also revealed she is 30,000 words into a sequel, Only Flo, planned for release next year. “I find that women as they get older feel that they aren't appreciated. It's an older woman that carries all the knowledge of her life that she can share with everybody,” she said.
