Jewel's upbringing was marked by hardship: her mother left when she was eight, and her father, a Vietnam veteran with PTSD, became abusive. Despite this, she went on to sell over 30 million albums worldwide. She is mother to 14-year-old Kase Townes Murray, whom she shares with ex-husband Ty Murray, and continues to perform and create music.
