Jesy Nelson has reportedly separated from her fiancé Zion Foster after four years together, following the devastating diagnosis of their twin daughters with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) type 1. The couple, who began dating in January 2022 and announced their engagement last September, are now focused on co-parenting their eight-month-old daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe.
A source told Metro: 'Jesy is devastated over her split from Zion and is already going through a lot with Ocean and Story’s SMA diagnosis. Who knows what the future holds for them as a couple, but their priority will always be giving their daughters the care they need and deserve.' An insider added to The Sun that Nelson is no longer wearing her engagement ring, but the pair remain friends and are fully united in co-parenting.
The split comes after Nelson shared a heartbreaking video on Instagram detailing the twins' diagnosis. SMA type 1 is described as a severe muscular disease affecting all muscles, including those used for breathing and swallowing. The girls were assessed at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where doctors said they would both be disabled without treatment. Nelson noted that they have since begun treatment, without which they would have died.
Nelson gave birth prematurely in May last year after a difficult pregnancy complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which posed a risk to the babies' lives. She underwent emergency surgery and remained hospitalised until delivery. The couple briefly split in 2023 but reconciled early last year. They released the R&B track 'Mine' following Nelson's departure from Polydor Records.
