Jessica Simpson Criticises Plastic Surgery for Relationships After 'All's Fair' Role

Jessica Simpson has spoken out against women undergoing plastic surgery to improve their romantic relationships, following her role as a botched surgery victim in the new TV series All's Fair. The 45-year-old singer and actor played Lee-Ann, the wife of a rock star who pressures her into multiple cosmetic procedures.

In an interview with Allure, Simpson said she understands people getting surgery for themselves but cautioned it will not fix relationship issues. 'I just feel bad for anybody that would do that for a man,' she said. 'There's always somebody that [is going to find] something in someone [else] that you don't have. And if you just keep chasing that, it's endless.'

For the role, Simpson wore prosthetic makeup that gave her deformed lips and cheeks. She described her character as vulnerable and seeking revenge. 'If a man were to be able to do that to me, and that's what I ended up looking like, that botched… It was kind of easy to be a little bit psychotic,' she said.

All's Fair follows a trio of female divorce attorneys, played by Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts and Niecy Nash-Betts, who leave a male-dominated firm. Despite a 3% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the show became Hulu's biggest original scripted series premiere in three years and was renewed for a second season.

Star Glenn Close defended the series, telling Variety the first three episodes were the weakest but the show 'adds up to something'. She praised Kardashian's professionalism, saying she 'always knew her lines' and 'had no pretensions'.
