Jess Wright has revealed she suffered from debilitating postnatal depression after the birth of her son Presley in May 2022. The former TOWIE star shared her experience in a new film for BBC Morning Live, describing the condition as something she had never experienced before.
Wright, 39, said the depression left her unable to enjoy time with her new baby. 'I wanted the world to stop so I could get off,' she explained. The star, who has lived with anxiety and depression since her mid-20s, said she takes medication to manage her mental health but faced uncertainty about continuing it during pregnancy.
The film, which airs today, aims to challenge the taboo around maternal mental health. Wright admitted the project was 'extremely triggering' but said it was important to share her story. According to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, one in five women develop a mental illness during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth.
Wright also revealed that her son Presley was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve, a congenital heart condition requiring open heart surgery. She described the moment doctors broke the news as 'life-changing,' adding that she felt she might collapse. The family are still coming to terms with the diagnosis, which came during a routine check for what was thought to be a chest infection.
