Jermaine Jenas's appearance on Good Morning Britain has been branded a 'car crash' after a tense exchange with presenter Ranvir Singh. The former BBC host, who was sacked in 2024 for sending unsolicited explicit messages to a female colleague, appeared on the ITV show on Friday morning in what was meant to be a comeback interview.
Disastrous Return to TV
Jenas, 43, formerly presented The One Show and Match of the Day before being dismissed with immediate effect. Multiple women later came forward with allegations, including a makeup artist who claimed he harassed her for sex in 2017. His 16-year marriage to Ellie Penfold subsequently ended.
At the end of May, nearly two years after his BBC exit, Jenas posted a video on Instagram outlining plans to 'rebuild his life.' However, his Good Morning Britain appearance quickly unraveled.
Heated Exchange with Ranvir Singh
During the interview with Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway, viewers noted Jenas appeared angry, evasive, and condescending. When Kate asked what he had learned, he called it 'a very specific thing to put your finger on and a little bit unfair.' Ranvir pressed him on advice to other men in power, accusing him of 'skirting around' the issue.
Jenas retorted: 'I'm not skirting around anything, Ranvir. I know what I did was wrong and I accept those punishments.' He later added: 'I understand why you have to come at me with this line of questioning, but if you feel like I've not been punished enough, go ahead keep going.' Ranvir clarified she was 'not saying that,' but Jenas interrupted: 'You've accused me of skirting around the issue.'
The exchange eventually calmed, with Jenas acknowledging: 'I did put myself in that position and I'm not sat here begging for my job back.'
Viewer Backlash
Social media erupted with criticism. User davewl1972 tweeted: 'Not sure getting angry with the female presenters was the look he was going for!' Another user, 71dd0, called it 'a car crash' and described Jenas as 'defensive, dismissive, condescending.' CNdupuechi noted: 'Jermaine Jenas seemed totally rattled. Not quite the comeback interview he was probably hoping for.'
Forestforever11 added: 'Whoever advised him to go on GMB has properly stitched him up.' Mike_619 compared it to Celebrity Big Brother, saying 'Ranvir destroying Jermaine Jenas reminded me of CBB.'
In a podcast last July, Jenas said his marriage was 'not in a good place' at the time of the scandal and that he 'dealt with it wrong and got heavily punished.'
