Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that he nearly quit his Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The former Top Gear host, 66, was told he had an aggressive form of the disease following a routine medical check in May 2025. He has since confirmed he is now in remission and undergoing regular check-ups.
Clarkson's Cancer Diagnosis and Initial Reaction
In an interview with the Sunday Times, Clarkson described himself as “without a doubt, officially, the world's luckiest man” after his cancer was caught early. He admitted that he initially considered walking away from the show rather than revealing his illness to his co-stars and the public. “I was really hoping, truly, truly hoping that I could get last year’s harvest done, and then go for the operation, because then I wouldn’t need to tell anybody, which is the whole Clarkson mentality,” he told the newspaper.
Struggle to Keep Working
Clarkson explained that his instinct was to hide the diagnosis and continue working as usual. “You are not allowed to be ill, and if you are ill, you certainly don’t own up to it. You just go to work as usual. And I was praying I could do that. But then that wasn’t possible,” he said. He told his team that he expected to undergo surgery within weeks and would be “slightly out of action” during recovery, unable to help with the harvest.
Decision to Come Clean
The TV star wrestled with the decision to disclose his condition, fearing that disappearing from the series would raise questions. “I had to wrestle with it for a long time in my head, thinking I can’t just disappear from the show, because everybody would say, ‘Well, where are you?’” he recalled. Ultimately, he chose to break his personal policy of not discussing illness. “So I decided I’m going to have to come clean, I’m going to have to break the Clarkson policy of being an illness bore and admit to it, and as a result I’m now sitting down with you talking about it, which goes against the grain,” he told the Sunday Times.
Impact on the Show and Public Response
Clarkson’s cancer news became a central focus of the final episodes of Clarkson's Farm’s latest series. Cancer charities praised the star for raising awareness about the disease. His openness about the diagnosis and treatment has been widely covered, with many commending his decision to speak out despite his initial reluctance.
