Jennifer Lawrence has revealed she confronted film executives after discovering unauthorised crew members were present while she was filming nude scenes.
The Oscar-winning actress said she "came down hard" on producers after finding people who had not been approved to attend were allowed on set during filming.
Speaking out on the Call Her Daddy podcast
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 36-year-old said she felt compelled to challenge the situation because of her position in the industry.
"There was an instance on set where crew members who weren't approved, when I was doing nudity, were on set," she told host Alex Cooper.
The Hunger Games star, who was the subject of a nude photo leak in 2014, said she chose to speak up because younger performers may not always feel able to raise concerns in similar circumstances.
Setting an example for younger performers
Lawrence said that she spoke up to set an example for young actresses who may fear being labelled 'difficult' for advocating for themselves.
"I came down hard on it purely because if we're not setting that kind of principle at the level at which we're doing it right now, then what on earth is going to happen to an 18-year-old unknown?"
Explaining that younger performers may fear being labelled "difficult" for advocating for themselves in such a manner, she continued: "If she shows up and there's people that aren't approved, she's going to be in a position like, do I say something and get a reputation for being difficult?"
"Or do I just let these people that I'm not comfortable seeing me naked see me naked? So it was important to me to explain to the people why that was not OK."
Industry guidelines on intimate scenes
Under guidelines from the American actors' union SAG-AFTRA, intimate scenes are supposed to take place on closed sets, with only an approved list of essential cast and crew present.
One such essential crew member may be an intimacy co-ordinator, a person whose role is to help actors choreograph and feel comfortable during sex scenes.
Last year, Lawrence, who shares two sons with husband Cooke Maroney, faced some criticism for comments she made about working without an intimacy co-ordinator on the film Die My Love.
Comments on intimacy co-ordinators
Discussing the nude sex scenes she filmed with co-star Robert Pattinson, Lawrence said: "We did not have [an intimacy coordinator], or maybe we did but we didn't really. I felt really safe with Rob. He is not pervy and very in love with [partner] Suki Waterhouse."
"We mostly were just talking about our kids and relationships. There was never any weird like, 'Does he think I like him?' If there was a little bit of that, I would probably have an intimacy coordinator. A lot of male actors get offended if you don't want to f*** them, and then the punishment starts. He was not like that."
While fans felt glad that Lawrence was comfortable shooting with Pattinson, some felt she was refuting the importance of intimacy co-ordinators.
