Jennifer Grey has delighted fans by sharing a series of sun-soaked images on Instagram from a recent beach vacation with her lifelong friend, actress Tracy Pollan. The Hollywood star, now 65, looked remarkably fit and toned as she posed in both a sleek black bikini and a stylish one-piece swimsuit.
A Long-Awaited Girls' Getaway
In her caption, Grey expressed pure joy, writing, 'Long overdue girls trip @tracy.pollan, giggled like we were back in high school.' The post quickly garnered attention, with fellow actress Jamie Lee Curtis among those showing their appreciation by liking the images. Grey wore her light brown hair in natural curls, accessorising with black sunglasses and elegant gold necklaces, showcasing a relaxed yet glamorous beach style.
Returning to an Iconic Role
This personal update comes as Grey confirms significant professional news: she will reprise her legendary role as Frances 'Baby' Houseman in an upcoming remake of the 1987 blockbuster film Dirty Dancing. Speaking to People magazine, Grey revealed the profound connection she feels to the character, stating, 'The role of Baby has held a very deep and meaningful place in my heart, as it has in the hearts of so many fans over the years.'
She elaborated on the lengthy process, explaining, 'I've long wondered where we might find Baby years later and what her life might be like, but it’s taken time to assemble the kind of people that I felt could be entrusted to build on the legacy of the original film … and I’m excited to say that it looks like the wait will soon be over.' This announcement marks a major milestone, nearly four decades after the original film's release, which co-starred the late Patrick Swayze.
A Storied Career in Hollywood
Jennifer Grey's journey in entertainment began long before her star-making turn in Dirty Dancing. The daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Joel Grey and former actress Jo Wilder, she was born in New York City and educated at the prestigious Dalton School, where she first met her best friend Tracy Pollan. Her early career included a Dr Pepper commercial debut at age 19, followed by film roles in Reckless (1984), The Cotton Club (1984), and the war film Red Dawn (1984).
In 1986, she gained wider recognition playing Jeanie Bueller, the jealous sister, in the classic comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off. However, it was Dirty Dancing the following year that cemented her status as a Hollywood icon. Despite subsequent roles in films like Bloodhounds of Broadway (1989) and Bounce (2000), and more recent projects such as A Real Pain (2024), Grey faced a career setback in the early 1990s after a rhinoplasty procedure altered her distinctive appearance, which she later described as leaving her 'anonymous.'
Personal Life and Resilience
Grey's personal life has often been in the spotlight, marked by high-profile relationships with actors including Matthew Broderick, Michael J. Fox, Johnny Depp, and William Baldwin, as well as TV host George Stephanopoulos. She was married to actor Clark Gregg from 2001 until their amicable divorce in 2021, and they share a 24-year-old daughter, Stella.
A tragic chapter involved a 1987 car accident in Northern Ireland with then-boyfriend Matthew Broderick, which resulted in two fatalities and left Grey with lasting survivor's guilt. Professionally, she demonstrated resilience by winning Season 11 of Dancing With the Stars in 2010 and continuing to act in television series like Red Oaks from 2014 to 2017.
In a recent interview with Red Online, Grey reflected on her career philosophy, saying, 'Sometimes it’s really easy to become jaded in the business... I always knew that it was tough, and I also saw that it was possible.' She emphasised the importance of preparation, adding, 'And so the more prepared you are and the more confident you are and the more tools you have, the better your chances of surviving.'
As she enjoys her beach retreat and prepares to step back into Baby Houseman's shoes, Jennifer Grey remains a beloved figure in entertainment, balancing personal joy with a highly anticipated professional comeback.
