Netflix has announced a reboot of the 2004 romantic comedy 13 Going on 30, with original star Jennifer Garner serving as an executive producer. The upcoming film will reimagine the story of 13-year-old Jenna Rink, whose wish to be “30, flirty and thriving” comes true overnight.
Original Star Returns Behind the Scenes
Jennifer Garner, who played the adult Jenna in the original, is attached as an executive producer. Director Brett Haley praised her involvement: “Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful.”
Haley, who also directs the reboot, said: “13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer. I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility.”
Lead Cast Announced
Taking on the lead role of Jenna Rink is Emily Bader, known for People We Meet on Vacation. That film landed in the Top 10 films lists in 92 countries, and Haley said he “couldn’t be more excited to reunite” with Bader. He added: “She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing.”
Joining Bader are Logan Lerman (Only Murders in the Building), Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four), Tim Meadows (Mean Girls), and Taylor Ortega (Big Mistakes).
Production Underway
Filming has begun on the reboot, though no official Netflix release date has been announced. The film will stream exclusively on Netflix.
