The 77th Emmy Awards saw viewers outraged as comedy star Adam Scott was overlooked for his role in the Apple TV+ series Severance, with many labelling it the biggest snub of the night.
The ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, 14th September, honoured the best of primetime television from June 2024 to May 2025. While The Studio broke records and 15-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest winner of a lead actor award in a limited series, Severance found itself at the centre of controversy despite leading nominations with 27 nods.
Fans took to social media to express their dismay that Scott's portrayal of Mark Scout — playing dual versions of the same character — was passed over in favour of Noah Wyle for his role in HBO's The Pitt. Scott had previously missed out on the same award for Severance's first season in 2022.
One Reddit user lamented: "If Adam Scott can't win off of that performance, he'll never win an Emmy." Another on X said: "Justice for Adam Scott — man, he blew everyone out the water and this was such a snub." Some viewers conceded that Wyle also deserved recognition, but argued Scott's performance was phenomenal.
Despite the perceived snub, Severance fans had reason to cheer as the second season won eight awards from its 27 nominations, including lead actress for Britt Lower and supporting actor for Tramell Tillman.
