Janet Jackson turned heads at the OUT100 Gala in New York on Thursday evening, showcasing a daring black ensemble that included an unusual hair accessory. The 51-year-old singer wore a fur vest, leather pants, and a flowing lace cape, but the most eye-catching piece was a flat, black paddle tucked into her long braid.
Jackson accessorised the look with chunky wrist cuffs and an ultra-long rectangular clutch. Her towering boots added several inches to her 5ft 4in frame. The Indiana native completed her glamorous appearance with a healthy glow, well-sculpted cheekbones, sharp eyebrows and kohl-rimmed eyes.
During the event, Jackson received the Music Icon Award, presented by OUT Magazine. In her acceptance speech, she quoted lyrics from her 1997 hit 'Together Again', saying: 'Everywhere I go, every smile I see, I know you are there, smilin' back at me.'
The appearance comes after a challenging year for Jackson, which saw the birth of her first child Eissa in January and her subsequent split from husband Wissam Al Mana in April. Additionally, she faces a lawsuit over damages incurred during the filming of her 2015 music video for 'No Sleeep'.
