Jane Fonda Playfully Questions Barbra Streisand's Oscars Tribute to Robert Redford

Jane Fonda has playfully questioned why Barbra Streisand was chosen to pay tribute to Robert Redford at the 98th Academy Awards, noting that she herself starred in four films with the late actor compared to Streisand's one.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Fonda was asked about the In Memoriam segment, which included a tribute to Redford by Streisand. Fonda quipped: 'I want to know, how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford? She only made one movie with him. I made four! I have more to say.'

Fonda and Redford starred together in 'The Chase' (1960), 'Barefoot in the Park' (1967), 'The Electric Horseman' (1979) and 'Our Souls at Night' (2017). She described Redford as the 'most gorgeous human being' with 'such great values,' adding that he 'lifted up independent movies.'

Streisand, who co-starred with Redford in the 1973 romantic drama 'The Way We Were,' appeared on stage to honour him. She recalled that Redford initially turned down the role because he felt the character 'had no backbone,' but later agreed after script revisions.

Redford died on 16 September 2025 at the age of 89. The In Memoriam segment also honoured Rob Reiner, Catherine O'Hara, Robert Duvall, Diana Ladd and Val Kilmer, among others.
