Actress Jamie Lee Curtis broke down in tears during a podcast interview this week as she discussed the death of Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot on 10 September at a college in Utah.
Speaking on Marc Maron's 'WTF' podcast, Curtis initially referred to Kirk as 'Charlie Crist', apologising for the slip of the tongue, before describing him as a 'father, husband and man of faith'. She said: 'I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say, but I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died, that he felt connected with his faith.'
Curtis added: 'Even though his ideas were abhorrent to me. I still believe he's a father and a husband and a man of faith. And I hope whatever connection to God means that he felt it.' She also expressed concern about the circulation of footage showing the killing, noting the psychological impact of repeated exposure to such images.
Several other prominent Hollywood figures have condemned the killing. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel posted on Instagram: 'Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?' He later said he had seen 'extraordinarily vile responses to this from both sides of the political spectrum' and that he would never understand those cheering the incident.
