Jamie Lee Curtis, the acclaimed actress and daughter of Hollywood icon Janet Leigh, has shared heartfelt reflections on how her late mother would have responded to her Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
In a candid interview, Curtis revealed that her mother, best known for her legendary role in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, would have been "incredibly upset" by her character's unconventional journey in the multiverse-spanning film.
"She would have hated it," Curtis admitted with a laugh. "My mother was very traditional in her approach to acting. She believed in glamour, elegance, and the golden age of Hollywood. My role in Everything Everywhere All At Once was anything but that."
The 65-year-old star, who won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre, acknowledged the bittersweet nature of her achievement. "Winning an Oscar was a dream come true, but not having my parents there to share it with me was deeply emotional," she confessed.
Curtis also reflected on the generational differences between her career and her mother's. "Janet Leigh represented a different era of cinema. I've had the privilege of working in a time when actors can take more risks, explore unconventional roles, and push boundaries in ways she never could."
The actress paid tribute to her mother's lasting influence, noting that while their approaches to acting differed, their shared passion for the craft created an unbreakable bond. "At the end of the day, we both lived for storytelling. That's what connects us across time and space - just like in the movie."
