Hollywood icon Jamie Lee Curtis became visibly emotional during a recent television appearance, where she contrasted the enduring grace of the late Princess Diana with what she described as the 'hatred' emanating from certain political leaders in her home country.
An Emotional Tribute to Princess Diana
The Oscar-winning actress was a guest on ITV's This Morning on Tuesday 25th November 2025 to promote her new film, Ella McCay. The conversation took a poignant turn as Curtis recounted a personal story about Diana, Princess of Wales.
She revealed that she nearly met the late royal in 1997 when Diana visited the set of Fierce Creatures with her young sons, Princes William and Harry. Curtis described the film as the 'awful sequel' to A Fish Called Wanda. They unfortunately missed each other, prompting Curtis to write Diana a letter. To her surprise, she received a reply just two days later.
Fighting back tears, Curtis reflected, "She was an extraordinary person. What an example. And look at where I live, and look at the example of the leaders, look at the example of the people leading my country and the hatred that they feel."
A Stark Contrast with 'Vile' Political Behaviour
This heartfelt memory led Curtis to directly address the current political climate in the United States. She specifically referenced recent footage of US President Donald Trump insulting a female reporter by calling her 'piggy'.
Curtis did not hold back, labelling his conduct as "unacceptable behaviour" and expressing her shock. She made a bold prediction, stating, "I think that unhinged moment of his abuse and vile behaviour is going to be his undoing."
In a further comparison, she praised the "grace and dignity and kindness and generosity" exhibited by the current Princess of Wales, Catherine.
Film Praise and Social Media Warnings
Beyond the political commentary, Curtis discussed her work on Ella McCay, which also stars Emma Mackey. She commended the director, James L Brooks, for his talent in capturing family dynamics, saying he portrays life in all its facets: "funny, moving, infuriating – all of it."
The actress also issued a stark warning about the dangers of social media for young people, describing it as an "epidemic". She voiced strong support for schools that ban smartphones, urging heightened concern for children's wellbeing online.
"I applaud schools that ban them – ban smartphones. It is an epidemic. It's awful. We all have to be very, very, very, very, very, very concerned about social media for our children," Curtis stated emphatically.
