James Morrison's Wife Died by Hanging, Inquest Hears

Singer James Morrison found his wife Gill Catchpole dead at their family home in Gloucestershire on January 5, an inquest has heard. The 45-year-old mother of two was discovered by Morrison after a friend who could not enter the house contacted him.

At the inquest held yesterday, pathologist Dr Terry Jones provisionally gave the cause of death as ligature suspension, with evidence suggesting she may have died from hanging. Gloucestershire coroner Roland Wooderson formally opened and adjourned the inquest.

Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances. A spokesperson said officers were called at 9.10am on January 5 following concerns for a resident's welfare. The death is being treated as non-suspicious, and the coroner and next of kin have been informed.

Morrison, 39, had been in a relationship with Catchpole for 22 years and engaged for 17. He has cancelled all work commitments following her death. Catchpole was known locally for supporting the anti-crime group 'Put The Knives Down Gloucester', donating a guitar signed by Morrison for a raffle.
