James Acaster: Being Fancied on Traitors Is 'Quite Nice'

Comedian James Acaster has said it is “quite nice” to be fancied after appearing on The Celebrity Traitors. The 41-year-old appears on the hit BBC game show as one of the traitors alongside TV presenter Maya Jama and content creator King Kenny.

Since appearing on the show, fans have been making compilation videos of the comedian with The Late Late Show presenter Patrick Kielty, describing him as becoming an “accidental sex symbol”.

Reaction to Newfound Attention

Speaking on the Vinylly Retentive podcast about how he felt with the newfound attention, he said: “Great. It’s fine. It’s nice.

“I’m 41. I’ve spent the last few years since lockdowns being like, ‘well, that’s it, over for me, no one’s ever going to fancy me again’.

“So it was quite a nicer turn of events to be fancied on Traitors.”

Playing as a Faithful

Acaster was a self-proclaimed reluctant traitor after he was recruited to join the murderous bunch in the turret. He said he has continued to play as if he were a faithful in the hopes to fly under the radar and avoid suspicion.

He said: “I think what I proved is that you don’t have to be anything in particular to be a traitor.

“The way that I chose to do it was just by behaving as I was planning to, which was as a faithful.

“I’ve always watched the show and thought that, and thought, why are you getting made traitors and then going around lying to everyone and then being like devious and then they figure out it’s you.

“Why not just go around and play the game as a faithful, and then they won’t have anything to go off of.

“So that’s the way I chose to play it.”

Finale Approaching

The series will come to an end on Friday with its anticipated finale revealing who will be crowned the 2026 Celebrity Traitors winner.
