Jacob Elordi's Awkward School Photo Resurfaces as Brisbane Alma Mater Celebrates His Success

A resurfaced school photograph of Australian actor Jacob Elordi has drawn attention, showing the Saltburn star looking unrecognisable in his final year at St Joseph’s Nudgee College in Brisbane. The image, posted by the school’s Old Boys’ Association, depicts a 17-year-old Elordi in a blue-and-white striped blazer, hands in pockets and wearing a wide grin.

The school shared the throwback photo alongside a tribute praising Elordi’s recent performance in Guillermo del Toro’s new Frankenstein film. The caption highlighted his transformation for the role, calling it “one of the most striking reinventions of the character in years” and noting the “precision of his physical work” and “emotional nuance”.

Del Toro has reportedly described Elordi as “one of my favourite actors working today”, adding that “he doesn’t need more than two takes”. The school expressed pride in his achievements, stating that the community is proud of how he has “stepped so convincingly into a role of this scale and cultural weight”.

Elordi, born in Brisbane in 1997, moved to Los Angeles in 2017 to pursue acting after growing up as a self-described theatre kid. His first Hollywood role was an uncredited extra in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. He rose to fame in 2018 with The Kissing Booth, later earning acclaim for roles in Euphoria, Priscilla, and Saltburn, which earned him a 2024 BAFTA Rising Star Award nomination.
