Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed the only storyline that he has 'taken home' with him since making his debut in the long-running show 26 years ago.
The actor is famed for playing David Platt in the ITV soap, however, there was a decade when the troublesome son of Gail Platt was played by another actor. Born on Christmas Day 1990, David was originally portrayed by Thomas Ormson in the ITV soap until 2000. The same year, Jack was recast in the role at 12 years old, and he has since gone on to play a part in the soap's biggest storylines.
Kylie's death left him feeling real loss
After celebrating 26 years since his debut on the cobbles earlier this year, Jack has been heard sharing which of his many storylines stayed with him, and left him feeling like he had suffered a real-life loss. Earlier this month, the soap star was seen marking 10 years since David tragically watched his wife, Kylie Platt, die in his arms, after she was horrifyingly stabbed in the street by teenager Clayton Hibbs.
At the time of her death, Kylie had just announced her family's plans to move to Barbados to live with her sister, Becky, after she killed ex Callum as he was attacking Sarah. But her excitement about the move was interrupted when she noticed her friend Gemma Winter being assaulted by the teenage Clayton. Kylie ran over to help Gemma but was horrifyingly stabbed in the chest by Clayton, who fled the scene, leaving David to cradle his dying wife in his arms.
Jack's emotional reflection on the scenes
Discussing the dramatic and emotional scenes on his podcast, On the Sofa, which he co-hosts with Corrie pals Colson Smith and Ben Price, Jack said: "It's the fist time ever, ever working at Corrie, and still is where I've actually taken a storyline home with me and been really, really upset and feeling a loss when no one's dead."
"It was three weeks of just crying and having to go to like a dark place and think of horrific things to get that emotion." Ben, who plays Jack's on-screen brother, Nick Tilsley, shared: "It was like, you actually physically went through it. We watched it. And then there was all the aftermath and you went, 'Oh?' We were all involved. It felt literally like she'd gone."
Jack continued: "I remember I couldn't even do the line run. If I do a line run, I'll go in the line run. I think we did two takes in the end." Colson, who previously played Craig Tinker in Corrie, went on to ask: "Had you discussed the silent scream?" Jack replied: "Nothing. Literally didn't say anything."
"And did you know that's what you were going to do?" Colson followed up, to which Jack said: "Yeah. Because they just went, 'What are you going to do at the end?' Because at the end [of the script] it says, 'David lets out like a cry'. Well, I went, let's just see what happens. And then yeah, did the thing."
