Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed that Kylie Platt's death is the only storyline he has ever taken home with him. The actor, who has played David Platt for 26 years, discussed the harrowing plot on his podcast On the Sofa.
Jack P Shepherd's Emotional Reaction
Shepherd said: "It's the first time ever, ever working at Corrie, and still is where I've actually taken a storyline home with me and been really, really upset and feeling a loss when no one's dead." He explained that the storyline required three weeks of crying and going to a dark place to get the emotion.
The death of Kylie Platt, played by Paula Lane, occurred in 2016 when she was stabbed by teenager Clayton Hibbs while trying to help Gemma Winter. David cradled his dying wife in the street.
Behind the Scenes
Shepherd recalled that he could not even do the line run for the final scene. He said: "I think we did two takes in the end." Co-star Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley, added: "It felt literally like she'd gone."
Shepherd also described the silent scream he performed at the end of the scene, saying: "At the end [of the script] it says, 'David lets out like a cry.' Well, I went, let's just see what happens. And then yeah, did the thing."
Coronation Street continues tomorrow at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
