ITV's The Voice slammed for asking bakery for free cakes

Rich Myers, founder of the viral bakery Get Baked, has publicly criticised ITV's The Voice after receiving an email requesting free cakes and cookies for the show's green rooms. The email, sent ahead of filming for the next series, asked for support in providing “amazing products for our talent dressing rooms and green rooms” but stated that ITV could not offer monetary compensation.

Bakery owner calls request a 'total disgrace'

Myers, 37, shared a screenshot of the email on Instagram, expressing outrage at being asked to supply products in return for so-called exposure. The email claimed the treats would be seen by “highly influential” presenters, coaches, and contestants. Myers captioned the post: “I actually thought this was a wind up, but it’s totally real. ITV and Lifted Entertainment, you’re a total disgrace. Honestly, how did we get here? Stop whatever this is because I wanna get off.”

In his response to the email, Myers wrote: “I must admit, I’m trying really hard not to bite at this stuff as of late, but on this occasion I simply cannot resist. I’m not blaming you, because I don’t doubt it’s obviously part of your job to send this email, but I would please ask that you tell the following people to f*** off on my behalf.”

Get Baked's popularity and support

Get Baked, known for its viral multi-layered Big Bertha chocolate cakes and quirky desserts, has garnered a large following on social media. Many of its hundreds of thousands of followers have supported Myers' decision to call out the approach.

Myers further criticised the show's declining viewership, noting: “I’ve never seen The Voice, but a quick search shows that their viewings have gone from 8.6m in 2015 to 2.8m in 2024. They can reach out to me if they want any marketing assistance, although that won’t be free either.”

ITV's response

A Lifted Entertainment spokesperson, the production company behind The Voice, said: “We apologise for any upset this has caused and are reaching out to Rich Myers directly. Immediate steps have been taken to ensure this type of request is never made again.”
