ITV The Chase Around The World Viewers Complain Minutes Into Show
ITV The Chase Around The World Viewers Complain

The new ITV spin-off The Chase Around The World aired its first episode on Thursday evening, but viewers were quick to voice their displeasure just minutes into the show. Hosted by Bradley Walsh, the programme combines elements of the popular quiz show The Chase with a race format reminiscent of BBC's Race Across The World.

Format and First Episode

In the debut episode, six pairs of contestants began their journey in Rome, racing across the city to the finish line. Along the way, they were tasked with a series of puzzles and questions that required accuracy to progress through checkpoints. The final team to reach the finish line faced off against Chasers Mark Labbett and Anne Hegerty.

Viewer Complaints on Social Media

However, the new format did not sit well with many viewers. On X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote: "This version of #TheChase is painful. @ITV in future please stick to tried, tested and very successful version of #TheChase. #ChaseAroundTheWorld." Another echoed: "Really not sure about this #ChaseAroundtheWorld."

A third viewer commented: "Not sure about this #chasearoundtheworld programme. The attraction of #thechase or #beatthechasers is that you can play along at home. Whilst you can do that in this too there’s too much time in between questions and why would I wanna watch people running around Rome." Another urged: "If you’re going to bother with this, record it and whizz through the adverts (and most of the cobblers). #chasearoundtheworld #thechase." A fifth added sarcastically: "This race around the world is a very original idea for a TV programme - Sorry, I meant to say Chase around the world… #chasearoundtheworld."

Mixed Reactions and Future Episodes

Despite the criticism, some viewers may appreciate the new twist on the classic quiz show. The series is set to continue with more episodes, but the initial reaction suggests that fans of the original The Chase prefer its straightforward question-and-answer format without the travel and physical elements.
