ITV chef Parveen Ashraf, known to viewers as the Spice Queen from her cooking show Parveen's Indian Kitchen, has revealed that her husband Qamar was killed in a robbery. The tragedy forced her to take months away from work to grieve.
Husband Killed in Ghana Robbery
Parveen shared the heartbreaking news in her first Instagram post of the year, explaining that her husband was living in Ghana at the time of his death. She described him as being "in the wrong place at the wrong time." The couple had been together for 38 years and had three children.
Emotional Return to Social Media
In an emotional video, Parveen said: "Hi everyone, it is Parveen the Spice Queen − but I am not even sure if I am still her. I just wanted to come on here as I’ve been away for a while but I wanted to come and say that I think I am ready to come back to work, but I am not even sure what that means yet. I had a personal tragedy and I lost my husband about six months ago. Those that have lost somebody, you will know how painful this is."
She added: "I feel he wouldn’t want me to wallow in self-pity so I am going to try and get back to work and posting videos and recipes." In the caption, she wrote: "The pain of losing someone you love is all consuming and it’s easy to just let the grief take over, however for the sake of my own sanity, I am hoping to get back to work soon."
Fans Offer Support
Fans quickly shared their condolences and support. One user commented: "Oh Parveen it’s so good to see you again. I think you’re incredibly brave. Take it one day at a time." Another said: "Sending you so much love and healing. I can hear how broken you are in your voice." A third added: "So sorry for your loss Parveen sending lots of prayers and welcome back."
Parveen previously revealed that she and Qamar often traveled together to maintain their marriage, as he worked in both the UK and Ghana.
