Eagle-eyed fans have spotted what appears to be Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, performing the snap from Avengers Endgame in the background of the new Avengers Doomsday poster.
Poster Details
The first trailer for Avengers Doomsday launched earlier this week, with Robert Downey Jr returning to the MCU as the villainous Doctor Doom. The film is a direct sequel to Avengers Endgame, directed by The Russo Brothers. The new poster features Doom facing a mural of what appears to be his universe collapsing due to an incursion, where the boundaries between two realities erode, causing them to collide and potentially destroy each other.
Fan Theory
One fan theory on X reads: “Tony Stark WAS Earth-616’s Anchor Being and his death created Doctor Doom!. The poster explicitly hides Tony snapping in the background tapestry for a reason. Deadpool & Wolverine established that when a universe's Anchor Being dies, that universe slowly decays and causes Incursions. Tony Stark was Earth-616's Anchor. When he snapped in Endgame, he saved his timeline but initiated its long-term death sentence.”
The theory continues: “In a neighboring universe, Victor von Doom watched his own reality collapse due to the Incursion caused by Tony's sacrifice. Doom carved Tony’s snap into his fortress as a reminder: Iron Man’s heroism destroyed Doom's entire world. Doom isn't invading Earth-616 for power, he's getting revenge on the universe whose hero killed his world!”
Release Date
Avengers Doomsday hits UK cinemas on December 18, 2026.
