Anne Hegerty sets record straight on 'mystery husband' and opens up about love life

The Chase star Anne Hegerty, known as The Governess, has long been candid about her romantic life. The 67-year-old, who joined the ITV quiz show in 2010, has spoken openly about her struggles with relationships and intimacy.

In August 2025, Hegerty addressed rumours of a secret husband during an appearance on Loose Women. She told host Christine Lampard that someone had vandalised her Wikipedia page, falsely claiming she was married to a man named Jake Hester. 'I have no idea who that is, I've certainly never met him,' she said, adding that her brother had jokingly demanded to meet the fictional spouse.

Hegerty has previously admitted she finds it difficult to fall in love with real people. In a 2021 interview with The Guardian, she said: 'I think the problem is I find it really difficult to fall in love with real people.' She later told OK! magazine that she struggles with intimacy, saying she 'zones out' during sex.

The Governess has also revealed that her longest relationship lasted just four months. Speaking to The Sun in 2019, she said she had fancied a man for years before they briefly got together, but she felt 'suffocated' by the relationship, adding that the reality did not match her fantasies.

In August 2025, Hegerty told the Mirror that she no longer desires a partner. 'I used to, but I realised I was wanting to want it rather than genuinely wanting a romantic relationship,' she said, stating she is 'very happy in my own company.'
