The Inbetweeners is reportedly set to make a comeback on Netflix, with all four original stars reprising their roles. The streaming giant has reportedly secured Simon Bird (Will), Joe Thomas (Simon), James Buckley (Jay) and Blake Harrison (Neil) for a new film.
However, Netflix is said to be fighting to get Emily Atack to return as her character Charlotte Hinchliffe, who left the gang swooning and broke Will's heart in the original series.
Emily Atack's Role in the Project
A source told The Sun: "The creators of the show have written the script and are ready to roll — but Emily is one of the missing pieces in the project they’re keen to get in place."
"But it’s fair to say getting Emily back would be the cherry on the Inbetweeners cake." Emily has been busy with her Disney+ show Rivals and is shooting a new legal drama for BBC One called Reputation.
Production Challenges
One of the biggest challenges facing the reboot has been managing the diaries of the four main stars, but they are reportedly thrilled to be back on board.
Last year, Inbetweeners creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley secured the rights to the comedy series through an agreement between Banijay UK and their firm Fudge Park Productions.
The Inbetweeners ran for three series between 2008 and 2010 on E4 and Channel 4, followed by two films in 2011 and 2014.
