Ian Wright will be part of the punditry team for England's clash with the Czech Republic tonight, with the Arsenal icon once again taking his place in the spotlight. Wright, now 62, has enjoyed an extraordinary career both on and off the pitch.
The former striker did not sign his first professional contract until he was 21, when he joined Crystal Palace, but he went on to establish himself as one of the Premier League's most prolific forwards. He scored 185 goals for Arsenal and was, for a period, the club's all-time leading scorer, while he also won 33 England caps.
Since retiring in 2000, Wright has become a hugely familiar face on television, beginning his broadcasting career with BBC's Match of the Day before going on to work with ITV and Sky Sports.
A large family
Away from football, Wright has also built a large family, becoming a father to eight children across four relationships. He first became a father at 19 after adopting his then-partner Sharon Phillips' young son, Shaun. He would eventually follow his adoptive father's footsteps into professional football, representing both Manchester City and Chelsea and earning more than 30 England caps. He is currently a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
Wright and Phillips later had a biological son, Bradley, who also enjoyed a successful football career. He became the all-time leading goalscorer for MLS side New York Red Bulls. The couple subsequently split, with Wright becoming father to another son, Brett, with a different partner. By the age of 21, he was already a father to three boys.
Marriage and affair
In 1993, Wright married his first wife, Debbie, after the pair reconnected. They went on to have two children together, Bobbi-Lee and Stacey, who have largely stayed away from the public eye. Their 11-year marriage eventually broke down after Wright admitted to being unfaithful, a period he has described as one of the "horrible" chapters of his life.
Reflecting on his past in his autobiography, Wright wrote: "I got caught up in all of that and cheated on my first wife, Debbie, which destroyed my marriage. That was a really horrible period. If there's ever been a time in my life I wish I could change, that would be it.
"I didn't experience an enormous amount of love from my mum when I was a child, so I've had to learn what it is, and learn how to be happy and at peace. I've put other people through horrible experiences along the way. If people think that's selfish, then I'm really sorry."
Wright and Debbie divorced in 2004. Two years later, he became father to a daughter, Coco, during another relationship. Wright has said he provides financial support for her but does not maintain an active relationship with her.
Life with Nancy
His personal life changed again in the late 2000s when he met Nancy Hallam, who reportedly had no idea of Wright's footballing fame when they first met. The couple dated for several years before marrying in 2011 and have two daughters together, Lola and Roxanne.
Wright has spoken warmly about his relationship with Nancy and their children. "Nancy's the perfect woman and I can't stand to be apart from her and our daughters," he said. "My love for them is unconditional and my upbringing means I have a lot of love to give now."
