Anne-Marie Duff's psychological thriller Before I Go to Sleep has found a new streaming home in the UK on Prime Video. The 2014 film, based on SJ Watson's novel, also stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong.
The plot follows Christine (Kidman), who suffers from amnesia after a vicious attack and is unable to form new memories. As fragments of her past resurface, she uncovers the terrifying truth behind her ordeal.
Despite a star-studded cast, the film received mixed reviews, holding a 36% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Digital Spy's review noted that the lead performances 'add value to this British psychological thriller' but concluded it was 'a creepy bedtime story' rather than a smart thriller.
Other critics were similarly divided. The New York Times called it 'bogus claptrap' saved by its actors, while Empire Magazine praised strong performances but felt the thriller elements overpowered the character drama. Mark Kermode described it as 'enjoyably preposterous'.
Before I Go to Sleep is now available on Prime Video and Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
