Helen Skelton Responds to Gethin Jones Dating Rumours

Helen Skelton has opened up about the 'wild' rumours surrounding her relationship with Gethin Jones, insisting she'll 'die happy'. Helen co-hosts the BBC's Morning Live alongside the Cardiff-born presenter, and their on-screen chemistry has fuelled speculation of a romantic connection. However, Helen has previously maintained they 'just work together'.

Best Friend Congratulated Her on Engagement

Helen, who was formerly married to rugby player Richie Myler, revealed the gossip had gone so far that even her closest friend congratulated her on an alleged 'engagement'. But the Countryfile presenter has once again dismissed the claims. In a recent interview, Helen described Gethin as one of her closest friends and made it clear they are 'not' an item.

The mum-of-three told The Times: 'It's wild. I've had my best friend congratulate me on our engagement. We're not (together). We work together; he's one of my best friends.' As for dating apps, she 'couldn't think of anything worse', but amusingly added that her father keeps saying she uses Tinder when he actually means the second-hand clothing app Vinted.

Family Reactions and Personal Life

Helen continued: 'So many things are really wonderful. My daughter said to me today, "Why haven't you got a wedding ring on, Mummy?" My middle son said, "Do you think you'll die alone?" I just laughed. I said, "I'll die happy."' She confirmed her split from Richie in 2022 following eight years of marriage, saying at the time: 'Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children.'

Since then, Helen hasn't publicly confirmed a new romance, although she and Gethin have been linked after reportedly enjoying spa outings together and appearing close at the Pride of Britain Awards. The Mirror previously quizzed her on whether they'd been on further dates. She responded: 'No, well, he's in Manchester working away, so yeah, no, all good.'

Strictly Work Friends

'We just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends. They printed pictures of us at work and that we're together because we are at work together.' Gethin, meanwhile, told The Sun last year: 'We are very supportive of each other, we like to look out for each other. I think that's fair to say on and off camera. You sometimes could get... you might need a little pep talk every now and then. Because she's very passionate.'

Intriguingly, the pair are set to go head-to-head at this year's National Television Awards, with both receiving nominations in the Best Presenter category, while Morning Live is also in the running for Best Daytime TV show. A BBC statement read: 'We are delighted to announce that Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton have both been nominated in the TV Presenter category at the National Television Awards.'
