Helen Skelton has broken her silence on persistent rumours that she is in a romantic relationship with her Morning Live co-presenter Gethin Jones. The 41-year-old mother of three unequivocally dismissed the speculation in a new interview with The Times, stating: "We're not. We work together; he's one of my best friends."
Rumours That Refused to Die
The dating gossip began after the pair were photographed together outside the BBC studio last year. Speculation intensified when they appeared side by side on the red carpet at ITV's Pride of Britain Awards in October and later at a Royal Television Society event in Manchester. The rumours became so widespread that even those close to Skelton were fooled. She revealed: "I've had my best friend congratulate me on our engagement."
Previous Denials
Earlier this year, Skelton told The Mirror: "[Gethin and I] just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends. They printed pictures of us at work and [claimed] that we're together, [but we were] at work together." Jones, 48, has also publicly laughed off the speculation.
Life After Divorce
Skelton divorced rugby player Richie Myler in 2022 after nine years of marriage, just months after the birth of their third child. Reflecting on the public nature of the split, she told The Times: "It felt humiliating to me because of where I'm from. I didn't enjoy walking down the street and people knowing stuff about my past." She said she was determined to "get up and get on with it" following the separation, particularly because she hated the "patronising looks" she received from strangers after the news became public.
