Hannah Waddingham, the 51-year-old English actress best known for her role in Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso, has opened up about her personal life, including a new romantic relationship and her experiences as a single mother. The star also shared details about her grandfather, Harry Waddingham, who was the oldest-known Second World War veteran at the time of his death in 2026 at age 109.
New Romance with Nick Beresford-Cleary
Waddingham, who recently starred in the Prime Video action film Ride or Die as international assassin Judith, revealed she has found love again. In an interview with Women's Health in May 2026, she described her new partner as "really lovely." The man in question is Nick Beresford-Cleary, who accompanied her to a screening of Ride or Die, where she was seen beaming with joy.
Speaking to Women's Health, she said: "And it's really lovely too, obviously, my relationship. But the best thing about it is, firstly, being happy and strong in myself." This marks her first public relationship since her decade-long romance with Italian entrepreneur Gianluca Cugnetto ended in 2022. She remained single for eight years after that, explaining she wasn't in the right headspace to date again.
Life as a Single Mother to Daughter Kitty
Waddingham and Cugnetto welcomed a daughter, Kitty, in 2014. Since 2023, she has been raising Kitty alone. In a Harper's Bazaar interview, she said her daughter is "my reason, just in all things," stressing that "nothing comes before her. Ever."
The actress admitted she hadn't considered having children until a moment at the London Palladium. She told Today in 2023: "I was a bit like, 'Oh my God, I want a child'. It literally, it was like a wave that hit me." Speaking to Glamour, she revealed she was told she might not be able to conceive naturally due to low fertility, making Kitty's birth extra special. She shared: "When I was told I couldn't have children, I realised how precious it is to be blessed with a child. I was lucky and I managed to conceive naturally – children come to people in all different ways – but without a doubt my greatest achievement is bringing my magnificent daughter into the world."

Beyond her career, Waddingham comes from a family of performers. Her mother was an opera singer, as were her grandparents. Her grandfather, Harry Waddingham, was a notable figure: the oldest-known Second World War veteran, he died in 2026 at age 109. He enlisted in the Royal Navy at 16 in 1932, served as a gunner and later in the PTI branch, survived two sinkings within a year during the war, and after the conflict joined the RAF's educational division, reaching the rank of Squadron Leader.
