Hairdresser Mysteries Cast: Where You've Seen Them Before

The Hairdresser Mysteries, a new six-part cosy crime series written by Jim Cartwright, arrives on BBC iPlayer in full on Friday 17 July, with weekly episodes also airing on BBC One at 2pm. The show follows Lily Petal, a modern-day hairdresser with a passion for all things 1970s, who leaves her high-profile London salon for a small shop in a sleepy northern market town. When murders begin occurring on her doorstep, Lily turns amateur detective with the help of her assistant Clary, local gossip Wincey, and eager Police Constable Adam.

Sally Phillips as Lily Petal

Sally Phillips, 56, plays the lead role of Lily Petal. She is best known for portraying Shazza in all four Bridget Jones films alongside Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Colin Firth. Additional credits include Smack the Pony, Jam & Jerusalem, I'm Alan Partridge, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Phillips is also recognised for her work on BBC Radio 4.

Charlotte Jordan as Clary Coombs

Charlotte Jordan, 32, plays Lily's analytical assistant Clary Coombs. She is best known for playing Daisy Midgeley on Coronation Street from 2020 to 2025. Other roles include Gaby Grant in Free Rein, Serena in Summer in Transylvania, and Amber Gordon in The Archers.

Ben Castle-Gibb as PC Adam Watson

Ben Castle-Gibb portrays eager young village police officer PC Adam Watson, who develops feelings for Clary. He is known for playing Toby in Netflix's You, Kane in Hollyoaks, Hotspurn in The Witcher, Alex in The Moment, and a role in House of the Dragon.

Sunetra Sarker as Wincey Evans

Sunetra Sarker, 53, plays Wincey Evans, the village's local gossip. She is best known for roles in Brookside (Nisha Batra), No Angels (Anji Mittel), Casualty (Zoe Hanna), Ackley Bridge (Kaneez Paracha), Broadchurch (Sahana Harrison), Cold Feet (Deborah), and Professor T (DCI Maiya Goswami). Sarker also appears on Loose Women and Celebrity Gogglebox.

Clive Rowe as Lonnie

Clive Rowe, 62, plays Lonnie, the flamboyant manager of the local charity shop. He is known for playing Duke Ellington in CBBC's The Story of Tracy Beaker, Mr. Salford in So Awkward, Clifford 'Shrek' Beale in All the Small Things, and Mayor Doyle in The Evermoor Chronicles. Rowe won a Laurence Olivier Award in 1997 for his performance in Guys and Dolls.

Guy Henry as Race Runard

Guy Henry, 65, plays Race Runard, the eccentric antiques dealer with a penchant for priceless teacup sets. He is best known for Henrik Hanssen in Holby City, Pius Thicknesse in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2, Cassius in Rome, and Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. Other film roles include Heyer in V for Vendetta, Dr. Morrison in Starter for 10, and Lord Boothby in The Krays: Dead Man Walking.

Wendi Peters as Gloria Crudd

Wendi Peters, 58, plays Gloria Crudd, a newcomer to the village who opens an ice cream parlour but finds her old life catching up. She is best known for playing Cilla Battersby-Brown on Coronation Street from 2003 to 2007, with a return in 2014. Other credits include Cook Jenkins in Hetty Feather and Dr. Nina Bulsara in Doctors.
