Gordon Ramsay Admits He 'Stole' Wife Tana from Friend, Compares Her to Julia Roberts
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has made a startling confession about how he met his wife Tana, revealing he essentially 'stole' her from one of his close friends after their first encounter. The 59-year-old culinary star, who shares six children with his 51-year-old partner, first laid eyes on Tana when she was dating his friend Tim in the early 1990s.
First Impressions and Julia Roberts Comparison
Ramsay vividly recalls his initial reaction to seeing Tana for the first time. "Tana was driving the car and I was sat in the back seat looking at my mate going, 'oh my god your girlfriend is f***ing gorgeous'," he told Ok! magazine. "She looked like a young Julia Roberts and she brought this level of excitement like no other."
Despite his immediate attraction, Ramsay sensed Tana wasn't particularly impressed with him during their first meeting. "I'm not sure what Tana said when she met me, I got the feeling she wasn't a big fan," he admitted.
Tana confirmed his suspicions, recalling: "I thought he was really arrogant, really full of himself. He used to really irritate me."

Remarkably, just one month after that awkward first meeting, both Gordon and Tana found themselves single and their relationship took a dramatic turn. "It took about a month and then we were both single," Tana explained. "We ended up chatting one night and chatted all night. I must have fancied him."
The couple married in December 1996 and will celebrate their pearl wedding anniversary later this year, marking nearly three decades together since their unconventional beginning.

In recent months, the Ramsays have become embroiled in a bitter family dispute involving their son-in-law, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty. The conflict reached its peak during the wedding of Ramsay's daughter Holly to Peaty last month at Bath Abbey.
The ceremony was overshadowed by the absence of Peaty's mother Caroline, who was reportedly disinvited, with only his sister Bethany representing his family in attendance. This exclusion has sparked a public war of words between the families.

Gordon Ramsay defended his family's actions, telling the Daily Mail that he and Tana had "done nothing wrong" and had treated the Peaty family "like royalty." However, Peaty's relatives have vehemently disputed this characterization.
One family member claimed: "The Ramsays did not treat Caroline like royalty at all – they treated her as though she was nothing. They ignored her existence and not once did Mrs Ramsay return any of Caroline's texts."
The relative added that a promised engagement lunch never materialized and accused Ramsay of pushing the family "too far" with his behavior.

According to reports, Ramsay made pointed comments during his father-of-the-bride speech that further inflamed tensions. After telling Peaty he was a "lucky man" and suggesting he could look forward to a marriage like Gordon and Tana's, Ramsay reportedly told his daughter Holly: "Shame you don't have the same" – a perceived dig at Peaty's absent parents.

Gordon Ramsay stood by his wedding speech when appearing on This Morning last month, describing it as "perfect and warm." He explained: "It's tough, honestly. Being the dad with three daughters, you dream of that moment and that moment arrives and you're just like a hot mess. But, the speech was perfect, it went well and you've got to find that… You've got to be warm, emotional… It's a tough gig."
His daughter Tilly revealed she had listened to the speech beforehand, saying: "I think it was Christmas Eve, I was sat in his room for an hour as he was just reading through it. Going through everything but no tweaks were needed, it was perfect. It made everybody cry."
Bride Holly Ramsay also defended her father's speech, telling British Vogue she felt "overwhelmed with happiness" during it and sharing a photo of herself and Adam smiling and laughing as Gordon spoke.

In what some interpreted as another subtle jab at the estranged Peaty family, Holly revealed that her parents paid for the couple's luxurious £6,000-a-night honeymoon to Mauritius. The tensions between the families reportedly began in September 2024 when Adam and Holly did not invite wider members of the Peaty family to their engagement party. Caroline Peaty, who had spent years supporting her son's swimming career by ferrying him to early-morning training sessions, was also excluded from Holly's glamorous hen do at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds, despite the presence of Tana Ramsay and friends including Victoria Beckham.
An insider close to the Peaty family revealed they have "given up hope" of reconciling with their son following Ramsay's recent social media activity, where he referred to himself as "dad" in a comment on Adam's wedding video. "It's dashed any hope of reconciliation in the near future," the source said. "They're keeping their heads down and trying to move on quietly. It's clear Adam's made his choice."
