Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana have spoken publicly about the family rift involving their son-in-law, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, insisting they have "done nothing wrong". The couple addressed the fallout following the wedding of their daughter Holly Ramsay to Peaty at Bath Abbey on 27 December.
Peaty's parents were uninvited from the ceremony, with his father reportedly offered a seat at the back of the church, an offer he declined. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ramsay called the situation "self-inflicted from their side" and said the family had been welcoming, even sending a chauffeur-driven car for the engagement party. "We've done nothing — none of what you've read: no rudeness, no ignorance — we welcomed them," he said.
Ramsay expressed a desire to meet Peaty's parents in Nottingham to "draw a line in the sand", but stressed that the decision not to invite them was made by the couple. "It was Adam and Holly's wishes for them not to attend and so we had to respect that," he said. Tana Ramsay reflected on her own family experiences, saying, "You don't have to be best friends, but be civil."
Tensions first emerged when Peaty's mother missed Holly's hen party. The situation escalated after Peaty's parents were uninvited, drawing public criticism from his aunt. In November, Peaty's brother James was arrested on suspicion of sending threatening messages during Peaty's stag do in Budapest. Reports that Ramsay made "cruel" remarks in his wedding speech were denied by the chef.
