She described developing Beau's lines on her fingernails, a sign her body was shutting down, and admitted the ordeal left her permanently changed, never fully recovering her former vitality.
Years later, Mary faced another health crisis with a severe bout of campylobacter food poisoning, likely from contaminated homegrown vegetables. During treatment with antibiotics, she developed an aversion to alcohol, reminiscent of pregnancy symptoms, which persisted even at social gatherings. Campylobacteriosis, the infection she suffered, can cause diarrhoea, cramps, and fever, highlighting the serious nature of her illness.
