George Gilbey, the Gogglebox star, died tragically at age 40 on Wednesday after a workplace incident in Shoebury, Southend-on-Sea. Essex Police reported that a man working at height fell and sustained injuries; he died at the scene. A cordon remains at EGL Homecare, where the incident occurred.
George's mother Linda has faced multiple hardships since the family rose to fame on Channel 4's Gogglebox in 2013. Her husband Pete McGarry died suddenly in 2021 at age 71, just days after being diagnosed with bowel cancer. Linda described George as 'really cut up' after losing his stepfather.
Linda is said to be 'in bits' following George's death. A close friend told The Sun: 'First, she lost Pete, now her son as well. She is incredibly emotional. George was like her little treasure.' George leaves behind his seven-year-old daughter, Amelie.
The Gilbey family—Linda, George, and Pete—became fan favourites after joining Gogglebox in its second series. They left briefly in 2014 when George entered Celebrity Big Brother, but returned in 2016. George also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, reaching the final.
