Good Morning Britain presenter Katy Rickitt has received an outpouring of support from fans after revealing the devastating loss of her beloved dog Tallulah, marking the second family pet death in just over a month.
Heartbreaking Announcement on Social Media
The ITV journalist, who has been a news correspondent on the flagship morning programme since 2012, took to Instagram to share the sad news with her followers. She posted an emotional tribute alongside a montage of photographs capturing precious moments with Tallulah over the years.
"Horrific Decision" to Say Goodbye
In her heartfelt caption, Rickitt described making what she called a "horrific decision" to euthanise Tallulah, who had been suffering from a brain tumour. She explained that although the dog's sudden death in December was difficult, having to make this conscious choice presented its own unique challenges.
"I thought Daphne's sudden death was hard but having to make this choice is long-term a blessing, short-term a curse," she wrote, referring to her other dog who passed away recently. "T had a brain tumour and slowly that and the drugs she was on for it were chipping away at her."
A Special Bond Between Owner and Pet
The television presenter spoke movingly about the extraordinary connection she shared with Tallulah, describing her as a "soul animal" with whom she had developed an almost telepathic understanding. She recalled specific daily rituals and personality quirks that made their bond particularly special.
"T would bring me her duck or pheasant toy each morning, she'd stare at me like I was gods gift while I did my makeup," Rickitt remembered fondly. "We called her kisses the kisses of doom, delivered with such ferocity you had to protect your teeth!"
Previous Health Scare and Recovery
Rickitt also reflected on a previous health crisis three years earlier when Tallulah nearly died from pneumonia. She described the miraculous recovery that followed, noting that she had treated every subsequent day as potentially precious since that frightening episode.
The journalist recalled rushing back from a work assignment in Edinburgh when her husband, former Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt, called to say Tallulah was coming home from veterinary care. "We pulled up at the same time and T shot out of the car and into my arms like a lightning bolt," she wrote.
Outpouring of Support from Followers
Fans quickly flooded the comments section with messages of sympathy and comfort for both Katy and her husband Adam. The couple, who married in December 2014 after meeting during a Good Morning Britain interview in 2011, have built successful careers in media and acting while also running an artisan bottle shop in Cheshire.
