James Gooderson, a familiar face on ITV's Good Morning Britain, has announced he is leaving the broadcaster after three years to take up a role in the United States.
Gooderson, who also worked on ITV News, revealed on X that he has joined Feature Story News as a Washington Correspondent. He will be based in Washington DC, covering President Trump and political developments on Capitol Hill for international news clients. He will also report across the US ahead of the midterm elections.
In his statement, Gooderson wrote: "After a fantastic 3 years at ITV and ITV News I've joined Feature Story News as a Washington Correspondent. I'll be working out of the DC office covering President Trump and the latest political news on Capitol Hill for a number of international news clients. Alongside reporting in Washington I'll also be reporting across the US ahead of the midterms. Can't wait to get started!"

Following the announcement on Monday, July 27, Gooderson received an outpouring of support from fans. One wrote: "Huge congratulations on your move. Can’t wait to catch your reporting as things heat up for the midterms. Big next chapter, well deserved!" Another added: "Wow James! This is amazing. Huge congratulations. You’ll be doing great work and can’t wait to hear you more!"
A third person said: "Congratulations! Sounds like an amazing role." A fourth agreed: "Absolutely fantastic news mate. You will be absolutely brilliant."
Recent Goodbyes on GMB
Gooderson's departure follows another recent exit from the Good Morning Britain team. On Wednesday, July 22, presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls paid tribute to director Stuart Earl, who left after ten years. At the end of the show, Reid said: "We just want to, before we go, say a huge goodbye to our amazing director, Stuart. He's getting on his motorbike and he's off, he's going to be riding over some mountains somewhere. But he's been with us for ten years and we are grateful for every minute. Stuart, thank you. Good luck, goodbye."
The studio applauded as Balls added: "Stuart, you are a total genius. You have been so brilliant. You support us so much, thank you very, very much." Andi Peters had earlier announced Stuart's departure during the competition segment, jokingly pretending to text him: "Stuart, love you lots! [It's] been a great ten years. Good luck, Stuart. Thank the lord I'm not doing Tuesday and Wednesday live, so I don't have to work with you."
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
