Good Morning Britain viewers expressed frustration during Friday's episode as the programme devoted significant airtime to Taylor Swift's rumored wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce. The pop sensation is reportedly marrying the Kansas City Chiefs tight end at Madison Square Garden in New York City this weekend.
Presenters Devote Segment to Celebrity Wedding
Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway returned to the ITV studio on Friday (July 3) to present the latest headlines, but a substantial portion of the programme focused on Swift and Kelce's nuptials. Notable friends of the couple, including actress Lena Dunham and musical collaborator Jack Antonoff, were seen on Thursday (July 2) dressed in formal wear. Aerial images captured a procession of black SUVs arriving at the venue, with attendees being dropped off beneath a white marquee.
Ranvir stated: "It's a love story that's the talk of New York. If the rumours are true, then Taylor Swift is set to marry her fiancé Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden this weekend."
Reporter Provides Details from New York
Reporter Ashna Hurynag, broadcasting live from New York, revealed: "They are no stranger to an arena or a stadium, but could this be, the most famous arena in the world, could it be their chosen venue for their wedding?" She described the significant police presence and gridlock in the city, noting: "To hire that out, if indeed they have, has come at a cost of £3 million for three days, because it's been billed as a wedding palooza."
Ashna continued: "So, here's what we know so far. A rehearsal dinner with some 100 guests or so wrapped up a few hours ago. The idea is that a celebration or party of some kind is planned for tomorrow night. Over 1,000 people have been invited, including Graham Norton, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, to name but a few, who have been spotted milling around New York City."
Viewers React Negatively on Social Media
Kate and Ranvir subsequently discussed the high-profile wedding with regular contributors Salma Shah and Caroline Flint, but audiences were far from impressed. Many took to social media to express their discontent, with some claiming to have changed the channel.
One viewer posted on X (formerly Twitter): "So far screaming kids and Taylor Swift, have I got the wrong channel. Is this @cbbc or #gmb." Another contributed: "4 grown a** women screeching about Taylor Swift's wedding," while a third stated: "Turned on the TV to accompany my breakfast and #GMB came on. Four screaming harridans all screeching over the top of each other...couldn't turn that over fast enough!"
Someone else remarked: "They're all shouting at each other!" with a fifth viewer observing: "It ground my gears this morning."
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
